Revs Sign Mike Videira

Told you we were hearing good things about Mike Videira’s chances of signing with the Revs.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution announced today that the club has signed midfielder Michael Videira to a Major League Soccer contract to play for the Revs. Per team and league policies, terms of the deal were not released. Videira will occupy one of the Revolution’s senior roster spots.

Why the Revs May Not be Active this Winter

After failing to reach the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2001, and stumbling badly during the second half of the season, many had believed this winter could possibly bring sweeping changes to New England.  The Revs have been the model of consistency, and haven’t experienced a major roster turnover in several years.  But the window of opportunity seems to be closing on the current group of core players, and one could look at the departure of Michael Parkhurst as a sign that a significant shakeup was in order.

While the club seems to have the means and the will to go shopping, there are some roadblocks in their way.  Most notably, the league’s reduction in overall roster spots from 27 to 24 means the cuts will have to come before the team can go shopping.

Bilello Responds to Fan Questions

Revolution COO Brian Bilello took the time to respond to fan questions on the team’s Official Blog a few days ago.  It’s worth taking the time to read over all of the responses, but I’ll just pick out a few key passages.

Goal.com’s Andrea Canales recently wrote a thought-provoking article on Revolution assistant coach Paul Mariner, who is forever a bridesmaid, never a bride when it comes to the MLS Coaching Carousel.

More than most coaching setups in the league, head coach Steve Nicol and Mariner govern as a team of equals, conferring with each other in a well-established partnership.

Yet while Nicol has won acclaim and praise for his work in keeping the squad near the top of the league table and contending for the championship every season, all Mariner has picked up is an ever-growing list of silvers in the race to win a head coaching position.

Revs Linked to South Korean F Ahn Jung-hwan

Does this count as the first semi-serious transfer rumor of the year?

Goal.com is reporting that the Revs are one of four MLS teams that have expressed interest in South Korean F Ahn Jung-hwan.  Clearly, there’s a desire in MLS to relive the Hong Myung-Bo era.

Bilello to Address Stadium Study

Revs COO Brian Bilello is currently accepting questions from Revolution fans on the state of the franchise on the team’s official Blog.

I’ve been told by a team employee that Bilello will use that forum to respond to our request for comment on the Inner Belt Brickbottom Scoping Study.
