Revs Top Wake Forest, 2-1
Posted by Mike Marshall on March 7, 2009
Wells Thompson – in a fight for a spot on the final roster – provided the margin of victory for the Revs over the Wake Forest University Demon Deacons in a friendly played Saturday night in North Carolina. New England also added an Own Goal while midfielder Corben Bone fired a free kick past Brad Knighton for the only Demon Deacon goal on the evening.
Details and a live blog were provided by the team’s official web site.
A couple of other “observations” as best we can give them…
– Tonight’s starting lineup:
Amaechi Igwe — Darrius Barnes — Jay Heaps — Chris Tierney
Wells Thompson — Pat Phelan — Shalrie Joseph — Mauricio Castro
Kheli Dube — Kenny Mansally
– The list of walking wounded for the Revs is getting a bit ridiculous, even by preseason standards. Unavailable for the match were Matt Reis (hamstring), Steve Ralston (quad), Gabriel Badilla (back), Kevin Alston (hamstring), Mike Videira (groin), Taylor Twellman (neck), and Chris Albright (personal).
– If I’m Chris Salvaggione, Dado Hamzagic, or Argenis Fernandez, I’m not liking my chances of making this team.
– You know how sometimes Wake Forest is referred to as the Revs’ farm team since the club has drafted so many former Demon Deacons in the last few years? I’m betting Steve Nicol wishes he could call up Corben Bone.
