Railhawks Top Revs, 1-0

The Revs’ final dress rehearsal for the 2009 Regular Season did not go quite as planned.
Nearly 3,000 spectators braved a cold, wet North Carolina evening to watch the hometown Carolina Railhawks defeat the Revolution by a score of 1-0 and win the inagural Carolina Community Shield match on the strength of a 16th minute header from defender Mark Schulte.
Missing several regulars due to injuries, the Revolution did a good job of maintaining possession, but rarely troubled Carolina goalkeeper Caleb Patterson. New England came closest to scoring late in the match when Jeff Larentowicz blasted a shot over the cross bar in the 81st minute. Four minutes from time, Kenny Mansally capitalized on a defensive miscue, but was denied by Patterson.
New England’s Regular Season kicks off this coming Saturday in San Jose when they face the new look Earthquakes.
