Revs Notebook: Barnes Signed, Perovic Next?
Posted by Mike Marshall on March 20, 2010
Kudos to the Revs for getting 2nd year defender Darrius Barnes signed to a multi-year contract. It’ll be interesting to see the numbers and cap hit on that, though.
Captain Obvious speaks:
“Darrius had a tremendous rookie season last year,” Revolution Vice President of Player Personnel Michael Burns said. “It’s a great compliment to his abilities that he was able to come into MLS and play every minute of every game. It’s a difficult enough feat for established players, let alone first-year players.”
Still trying to figure out how Barnes, Emmanuel Osei, and Cory Gibbs will work together. The idea of Gibbs at left back kinda scares the crap out of me.
In even better news, multiple outlets are now reporting that the Revs are closing in on a deal for Serbian midfielder Marko Perovic, the former FC Basel man who was apparently the most impressive of the three trialists the club had in camp last week.
Good stuff from FDA on this:
Perovic, 26, is still under contract to FC Basel, which committed to a free transfer before he joined the Revolution on trial, according to a team source. No salary terms have been finalized, but “we think we can get something done,” the source said.
Hey, look – Bob Kraft’s favorite word – “free”.
Just kidding… Bob Kraft’s favorite word is inexpensive.
Seriously, the Revs can grab a young attacking player with a fairly impressive resume and some great YouTube highlights on a free transfer? Uh… yes, please.
