I Really Like Marko Perovic

Posted by Mike Marshall on March 16, 2010

It’s not quite a DVD Player in terms of scouting, but after watching a few You Tube clips of Serbian midfielder Mark Perovic, I really hope the Revs sign him.  Take a look:

Big kid… quick feet… skilled… good in traffic… and yes, I realize it was pretty poor defending.

The Revolution Will be Televised… in HD

Posted by Mike Marshall on March 15, 2010

I probably deserve a kick in the groin for using that line again.

The rumors are true.

No, not those rumors.  Seriously, NESN?  I’m sure the dozen or so appearances on NESN Plus would have done wonders to change the view that the Revs are a minor league franchise.

No, the rumors that the Revs will be broadcast in High Definition are apparently true.  Brian Billello hinted at it recently, and the club confirmed them today as they announced that Comcast Sportsnet New England will be their broadcast partners in 2010.  Brad Feldman and Jay Heaps will handle the call as CSNNE will broadcast an anticipated 27 of 30 Regular Season games this year.

Sinovic, Boggs Signed

Posted by Mike Marshall on March 15, 2010

According to the official site, the Revs have inked deals with second round picks Seth Sinovic and Zak Boggs.  Both players were signed to the Developmental Roster.

Reaction from Captain Obvious:

“Seth and Zak are both promising players and we’re pleased to add them to the roster,” Revolution Vice President of Player Personnel Michael Burns said. “Both players have showed some good things during preseason training, and now that they are on the roster, provide us with more depth in several positions. We’re looking forward to developing them in our system.”

For his part, Boggs thinks the whole thing is awesome:

“It’s awesome,” he said. “I’ve been here for a while now and it’s been awesome. I don’t know what else to say.”

Revs Clip Eagles, 2-0

Posted by Mike Marshall on March 13, 2010

The Revs got the North Carolina portion of their preseason schedule off on the right foot, defeating the USL-2 Charlotte Eagles by a score of 2-0 on Saturday night in Charlotte.  Zack Schilawski got the good guys off to a good start, scoring in the 21st minute, while Kheli Dube added the insurance in the 2nd half.

A couple of observations based on little more than the box score:

  • Schilawski continues to justify what we’ve been hearing… namely, that he’s the best forward in camp right now.
  • I wonder if it’s too early to read something into the fact that of the three trialists, Serbian Marko Perovic started, while Garreth Williams entered in the 75th minute, and Andres Raad played only four minutes.
  • Khano Smith didn’t get off the bench.  Thank God.
  • I have a feeling about Nico Colaluca.  Call it a hunch.

Revs Notes – March 6th, 2010

Posted by Mike Marshall on March 6, 2010

Not much going on in Revs land these days.  Your guess is as good as mine as to why that’s the case.  Catching up on a few odds and ends…

  • Kheli Dube and Kenny Mansally have earned their Green Cards and no longer count against the international player limit.  I’ll have more on what that could mean to the Revs later this week.
  • Kyle McCarthy says the Revs will have multiple trialists in camp when the team travels to North Carolina next week.
  • We’re hearing rookie Zach Schilawski and youngster Nico Colaluca have been two of the Revs’ better players so far in training.

Khan uh-oh

Posted by Mike Marshall on March 6, 2010

Seriously, what is Khano Smith still doing with the Revolution?

I can understand him wanting to train for a couple of days to “stay sharp” in case a team in Europe (…snicker) comes calling, but isn’t this dragging on a bit?

You don’t think…

…not even the Revs.  At least I hope not even the revs.
